Grumblers And Faultfinders
• Why do you think people complain?
• How do you feel when you complain?
These people are grumblers and faultfinders; they follow their own evil desires; they boast about themselves and flatter others for their own advantage.
Jude 16
The people to whom Jude is referring in this verse were not just unpleasant people. They were out to destroy God’s church. We believers do not want to be compared to them!
The truth is that people who complain are usually doing so because they want their own way. As believers, we are not supposed to want our own way—we are supposed to want God’s way. When we find ourselves complaining, we need to ask ourselves what is making us want to complain. We’ll probably find that, on some level, we feel we are not getting our own way. And we’ll probably realize that this is a good thing. God knows more about what we need than we do. If God’s way doesn’t match up with our way, we shouldn’t grumble or try to find fault with God’s plan. Instead, we should take a deep breath and pray about whatever is bothering us.
Remember that grumbling, faultfinding and complaining do nothing to glorify God. And these activities don’t make us look very good either.
PRAYER
Dear God, please forgive us when we grumble and complain. Please help us to want to do things your way, not our way. Next time we are tempted to complain, please remind us to pray instead. Amen.
