A Friend Like You
• When you hear the words “good friend,” what names or descriptions pop into your head?
• What’s the worst thing a friend can do? Explain.
Many claim to have unfailing love, but a faithful person who can find?
Proverbs 20:6
Having a BFF sounds great, but it’s not always possible to be best friends forever. Unfortunately, friendships don’t run smoothly all the time. There are bound to be bumps in the road, conflicts, arguments and misunderstandings that can disrupt the bond of friendship between two people.
The secret to a faithful, lasting friendship is to make sure that conflicts and misunderstandings don’t have a chance to take root. In Ephesians 4:26, the apostle Paul instructs us not to let the sun go down on our anger. That’s good advice. When we have a conflict with a friend, we need to talk it through as soon as possible. We cannot give grudges time to build.
As Christians, we have a chance to honor God with the way we treat our friends. Proverbs 20:6 says faithful friends are hard to find. If we can be the kind of friends who are trustworthy, encouraging and honest, we will stand out from others.
The more people see what good friends we are, the more they’ll be drawn to us. If they look closely enough, they’ll see our friendships are rooted in something deeper than popularity.
PRAYER
Dear God, thank you for the faithful friends you’ve given us. Bless our efforts to be faithful friends to others. We will give you all the glory. Amen.
