Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
James 1:27

Love is a great feeling. But love is an even greater action. Jesus gave away a lot of love when he walked on this earth, but there was a lot more to his love than words and feelings. He helped people who needed his help.

In this Bible verse, James is asking us to do the same. James mentions orphans (children without parents) and widows (women whose husbands have passed away) because at the time that he wrote this verse, those were the people who needed the most help.

Orphans and widows still do need help, and so do lots of other people. Can you think of a person at school who you could help? Can you think of an older person who might enjoy spending some time with you?

If we ask Jesus to show us someone in need, someone who needs our help, he will. This might mean sharing a favorite toy, sharing our food or spending time with someone who is lonely.

PRAYER
Dear God, thank you for making sure we have everything we need. Please show us someone we can help today. Please help us understand how we can help and have the courage to do what you want us to do. Amen.
