Victory Is Ours

Victory Is Ours

• What is your biggest win ever?

• Why do Christians sometimes lack confidence about living their faith?

Their hearts are secure, they will have no fear; in the end they will look in triumph on their foes.
Psalm 112:8

Back in 1969, New York Jets quarterback Joe Namath predicted that his team would beat the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III. This prediction was a bold one because the Colts were considered to be a much better team than the Jets. To make Namath’s prediction come true, the Jets would have to pull off one of the biggest upsets in sports history. And that’s exactly what they did.

The psalmist’s prediction in Psalm 112:8 is even bolder. The psalmist doesn’t even name the foes because it doesn’t matter who they are. God’s people will triumph over all.

Of course, the important words to remember in this verse are “in the end.” God doesn’t promise that we will win every battle. Sometimes we’ll be embarrassed and be made to look foolish. Other times we’ll lose our cool and make people question what we’re really like. Other times we’ll give in to temptation and question ourselves.

What God does promise is that if we keep plugging away, if we stay faithful to him, eventually we will overcome our opponents. Victory will be ours.

PRAYER
Dear God, thank you for giving us the confidence to face every day, knowing that eventually we will prevail. Let us never lose sight of our ultimate victory. Amen.
