Courage Under Fire

Courage Under Fire

• Who is the bravest person you know?

• What is the most recent courageous thing you’ve done?

Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.
Ephesians 6:19 – 20

When you think of courage, what kind of situations do you think of? Do you picture firefighters rushing into a burning building? Do you picture police officers chasing dangerous criminals? Do you picture soldiers fighting in enemy territories? Courage certainly plays a role in each of those situations. But courage isn’t just physical action.

For Christians, courage plays a role in almost every decision we make. If we follow Christ, we’re going to make choices that are unpopular. We’re going to go against the crowd. We’re going to stand up for people who are being bullied or made fun of or ignored. We’re going to speak up when we see things that are wrong.

That takes guts—more than most people have. So where does that courage come from? God himself. No matter what situation we’re facing, we can get the personal strength we need directly from him.

PRAYER
Dear God, thank you for sending your Son to give us the greatest example of courage in history. Give us the courage we need to carry out your will. Amen.
