A Bruised Reed He Will Not Break

A Bruised Reed He Will Not Break

• When do you feel lonely?

• When you feel lonely, what do you do?

“A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out. In faithfulness he will bring forth justice.”
Isaiah 42:3

In this verse from Isaiah, God is talking about Jesus. He is saying that Jesus will not break a bruised reed, meaning that Jesus does not kick us when we are down. Jesus will not snuff out a smoldering wick, meaning that Jesus does not discourage those who are barely hanging on.

God cares about people who are hurting, people who are lonely—he does not crush them. He is a gentle and merciful God who wants to help us in our sorrows.

When we are feeling small, weak and all alone, it is then that we need to go to God, and he will comfort us, lift us up and make us strong. During those lonely times God is close to us, just waiting for us to reach out to him.

PRAYER
Dear God, thank you for caring for the lonely. When we feel alone, please remind us to reach out to you. And when we can help someone else who is lonely, please show us how to do so. Amen.
