Pretty Simple

Pretty Simple

• If you could change one family rule, what would you choose?

• What do you think the purpose behind this rule is?

Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.
Ephesians 6:1

Sometimes the Bible makes things simple. “Children, obey your parents.” Pretty simple, right?

This verse doesn’t say to obey your parents when you feel like it, or when you think they’re right about something, or when you think it will work for you. It just says to obey.

Even if you don’t want to.

While you may sometimes think that your parents are from outer space, the truth is that God assigned them to you. God has a plan, remember? And your parents are part of that plan. And their job is to love you, raise you, protect you, train you and teach you. When they tell you to do something, realize that they are just doing the job that God gave them.

The job God gave you is much simpler: Obey your parents.

When this is difficult, remember that when you are obeying your parents, you are really obeying God.

PRAYER
Dear God, thank you for parents. Please help us to obey them, even when we don’t want to. Amen.
