No Lie
• What’s the most embarrassing lie you ever got caught in?
• If you found out a friend lied to you, how would it affect your friendship?
In the hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time.
Titus 1:2
What would you say if your best friend told you about an easier way to receive eternal life—one that didn’t require you to believe in Jesus or live according to God’s will? Would you be tempted to investigate it? What if your church pastor stood up on Sunday morning and announced that Bible scholars have found that Jesus isn’t the only way to salvation anymore? Would you change your mind?
No matter how much respect you have for your best friend or your pastor, you would need to be cautious. Why? They’re both human beings and capable of deception.
If you’re going to trust your eternal life with someone, it should be someone who does not lie. And that’s God. He’s the source of all truth, which means there is no lie in him. When he offers eternal life, you can depend on it.
That’s important to remember because there will be people who try to shake you out of your Christian faith. They’ll give you dozens of reasons why other beliefs — or no beliefs at all—are better than Christianity. In the end, though, you have to ask yourself, “Who can I trust?”
PRAYER
Dear God, thank you for the fact that we can trust everything you say. Help us always to recognize your truth in a world of lies. Amen.
