Seasoned With Salt

Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.
Colossians 4:6

If our conversation is full of grace, it is Spirit-filled and pure, gentle and kind, beneficial to people and honoring to God. Salt not only adds flavor to food but also prevents food from spoiling. Our words should be graceful, nurturing anyone we talk to.

When we lead a Christian life, people will eventually ask us about our faith. Sometimes they ask out of curiosity. Sometimes they ask because God is calling them to himself. Sometimes they ask to challenge us and our beliefs. Whatever the reason, believers need to be ready to respond the way God wants us to.

Our speech reflects our relationship with God. People, both believers and nonbelievers, learn about God from our words. We have the opportunity to speak the truth rather than allowing the truth to be hidden. The choice is ours, but Paul tells us in this verse which option God wants us to choose.

Dear God, thank you for allowing us to influence others with our conversations. Please help us to always be ready to influence those people who ask about you, as well as those who don’t. Amen.
