Power Source
• When you think of Jesus, what comes to mind first: his love or his power? Why?
• What are some of the most amazing things Jesus ever did?
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6
Someone once said Jesus is like Clark Kent and Superman at the same time. (In case you’re wondering, Clark Kent is Superman’s secret identity.) That’s probably not the best description of Jesus, but it is understandable. Like Clark Kent, Jesus appeared to be mild-mannered and average. He was a patient teacher. He was good with children. He talked about love.
At the same time, he was the most powerful person ever to walk the earth. He went one-on-one with Satan himself and walked away with the victory. He drove demons out of people who were possessed. He commanded a raging storm to calm down, and it obeyed him. Superman never did anything like that! And Jesus didn’t even need a cape.
Jesus is the Prince of Peace, but we shouldn’t overlook his power. He was fully human and fully God, which means he possessed the power of the Creator of the universe.
That is our Savior and Lord, the one who watches over us and protects us. He is the Shepherd who takes care of his sheep. We can sleep well knowing all that power is on our side.
