Welcome To The Family
• What’s the best thing about having God as your heavenly Father?
• What’s the most challenging thing about having God as your heavenly Father?
Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.
John 1:12
Christians are children of God. That family connection brings with it a lot of responsibility. As God’s children, we have to examine the way we act, the way we think, the way we treat others and the way we spend our time to make sure that everything we do brings glory to our Father.
Being a child of God also brings with it countless privileges. For example, we know for certain that we have a faithful companion who will never leave us. In Psalm 23:4, David wrote, “Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me.” Like David, we have no need to fear with our heavenly Father by our side.
As children of God, we have the perfect guidance counselor. God created us, so he knows everything about us. He knows about skills and gifts we have that we aren’t even aware of. And if we let him, he will lead us into situations where we can put our abilities to use.
Finally, as children of God, we have a place to live—forever. When our time on earth is over, God has a place for us in heaven—with him.
PRAYER
Dear God, thank you for accepting us as your children. Let us always remember what a privilege it is to be able to call you Father. Amen.
