God’s Messengers
• What’s the most important thing people should know about the Lord?
• How can people see what God is like through you?
“You are my witnesses,” declares the LORD, “and my servant whom I have chosen, so that you may know and believe me and understand that I am he. Before me no god was formed, nor will there be one after me. I, even I, am the LORD, and apart from me there is no savior.”
Isaiah 43:10-11
In the Old Testament, the people of Israel were God’s witnesses or messengers. They were responsible for telling the world who God is and what he’s done. Ever since Jesus came, though, that job has been given to Christians. We have a responsibility to tell others about who Jesus is and what he’s done in our lives.
It’s not an easy job. People aren’t always eager to receive our message. In fact, many messengers have been killed for delivering it, including most of Jesus’ disciples and the apostle Paul. The good news is that the Holy Spirit goes where the message goes. He will be with us, guiding our words and blessing our work. No messenger of God ever works alone.
As with anything we do, hard work is the secret to becoming a good messenger. First we need to learn the message. We do that by reading the Bible and talking with experienced Christians. Then comes the delivery. The more we practice what to say, the more confident we become in saying it. The more we talk to people, the more we discover how they respond and what questions or arguments they have. Experience is the key.
PRAYER
Dear God, thank you for trusting us with your message. Bless our efforts to deliver it in the best way we know. Amen.
