Can I Get A Witness?
• Have you ever had someone witness to you? If so, how did you respond?
• Have you ever witnessed to someone else? If so, what approach did you take? If not, why?
“You will be his witness to all people of what you have seen and heard.”
Acts 22:15
Paul is describing his commissioning by God to tell the Good News about Jesus. He told his audience that God instructed him to tell others what had happened to him.
To be Jesus’ witnesses in the Roman Empire wasn’t easy. The Romans didn’t want Christianity to spread. They viewed it as a threat to their power. The Jews also were antagonistic towards this new faith, Christianity. Both groups persecuted Jesus’ followers. In fact, Paul suffered many times for his choice to follow God and tell about Jesus.
Though the stakes are considerably lower today for most of us, witnessing is still difficult for many Christians. Fortunately, we don’t have to do it alone. God has given us his Holy Spirit to empower us.
If you’re not sure how to approach someone with the gospel message, ask God to work through his Holy Spirit to give you a sense of peace and confidence. Ask him to give you the right words to say. Ask him to help you keep a calm and loving demeanor, even if the person you are talking to isn’t receptive. Ask him to help you answer questions to the best of your ability. Ask him to help you be an effective witness.
PRAYER
Dear God, thank you for sending your Holy Spirit to assist us in spreading your Word. Give us the courage and wisdom to share the Good News of Jesus with others. Amen.
