The Great Provider

The Great Provider

The Lord spread out a cloud above them as a covering and gave them a great fire to light the darkness. They asked for meat, and he sent them quail; he gave them manna—bread from heaven. He opened up a rock, and water gushed out to form a river through the dry and barren land. Psalm 105:39-41

This is a song of God’s provision. While Psalm 105 summarizes the vast history of the people of Israel and their amazing deliverance from Egypt, it also paints a panorama of God’s provision. The Lord protected with the cloud and directed with the fire. He fed them with manna and quail and provided water enough to form a river when they were thirsty. He was faithful to them every step of their wandering through the wilderness. All of this happened so that they would follow God’s principles and obey his laws, verse 45 says. These verses remind me that the same God who gave the cloud as a covering and fire to light the darkness and brought the Israelites out with joy, is our God who longs to protect us, direct us, and empower us. The same Lord who gave his people manna and quail from heaven and water from a rock wants to provide for us today, regardless of what our needs are, so that we will follow him and obey him. Pray your way through this great psalm. Speak its verses aloud to God, and thank him for his provision in the past, the present, and the future.

Prayers:
OH, LORD, my provider, I praise you. Thank you for your Word, which reminds me of your faithful provision to your people through history. Thank you for all the ways you have provided for my needs, physically, spiritually, emotionally, and relationally. Help me to respond with thanksgiving and with obedience to your principles and your will.
