All Our Days

All Our Days

You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. Psalm 139:16

My mother was in Nevada undergoing cancer treatment when her only son’s first child was born. Doctors told her she couldn’t fly because of brain swelling and couldn’t survive the drive to Texas. Mom had always feared flying but wanted more than anything to see her new grandchild, her six children and the other twenty- two grandchildren and to worship at her church once more. When an elderly minister came to her hospital bed that night, he read Psalm 139. When Mom heard, “Every day of my life was recorded in your book, every moment was laid out before a single day had passed,” she knew she didn’t have to worry about how many days she had left because God knew. Those words set Mom free to check out of the hospital, enjoy a glorious flight, hold her new grandson, and celebrate every day she had left as a gift from God, who had ordained each moment. Through this experience, I came to a renewed sense of God’s sovereignty, whether I’m on the ground or in the air, on a jumbo jet after the 9-11 hijackings or on a little prop plane in the snow-covered mountains of Wyoming.

Prayers:
LORD, I praise you for your amazing sovereignty. You wove me together in my mother’s womb, saw me before I was born, and have already recorded every day of my life. You charted the path ahead of me and laid out every moment before a single day had passed. I don’t have to fear because you are with me, before me, behind me, surrounding me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me!

Quotes:
Time is so precious that it is dealt out to us only in the smallest possible fractions—a tiny moment at a time.
