God Wins!

The Devil, who betrayed them, was thrown into the lake of fire that burns with sulfur, joining the beast and the false prophet. There they will be tormented day and night forever and ever. And I saw a great white throne, and I saw the one who was sitting on it. The earth and sky fled from his presence, but they found no place to hide. Revelation 20:10-11

The Bible tells the story of a jealous angel named Lucifer (Satan) who rebelled and sought equality with God so God cast him out of heaven. Since Satan cannot be God, he opposes those who are precious to God. His game plan is to detour his opponents—God’s children—from their destiny. He has only two plays in the handbook. Number one, blind unbelievers to the truth. Number two, distort the focus of believers and throw them off their game. Satan has only a limited amount of time before the buzzer sounds, so he plays hard. But no matter how many times he injures an opponent or fakes a shot, the final score is already flashing on the board. God wins!

One day Satan will be thrown out of the game altogether, but until then how we play is critical. Souls are at stake. If we work together, we can strengthen one another and recruit more players as we depend on our victorious Lord and King. Recognize your true opponent—not people or circumstances but rather an enemy who knows he’s already defeated. Shoot for the goal, keep focused on the prize of the high calling in Christ, all the while rejoicing that God has already won!

Prayers:
SOVEREIGN GOD, you are on the throne and have already overcome the enemy! You are the victor. As this year comes to a close and a new year approaches, may I spend less time worrying about a defeated enemy and more time concerned about those who need the truth. Help me remember that time is limited and how I play the game of life is critical.

Quotes:
Have plenty of courage. God is stronger than the devil. We are on the winning side.
John Jay Chapman (1862–1933)
