Where Is Our Hope?

You are my refuge and my shield; your word is my only source of hope. Psalm 119:114

As Corrie ten Boom traveled around the world to share a message of forgiveness and love after her release from a Nazi concentration camp after World War II, she met a missionary who was desperately afraid and in despair because Christians were continually suffering persecution and death near her mission base. Corrie advised the missionary to look down on the terrible events around her from on high, from the heavenly realms where Jesus’ victory is the greatest reality. But she acknowledged that it is possible to have this kind of perspective only through the Holy Spirit and a renewed vision of the Lord Jesus Christ.

There are times when we can look to the Lord and his Word as our only source of hope. Take a few moments to reflect on where you place your hope. Is it in a person or a hoped-for outcome? financial security? good government? Lift up your eyes to the Lord; place your hope in him and his Word and he will sustain you.

Prayers:
DEAR LORD, how grateful I am that you are my refuge and my shield. Although my perspective is often focused on the circumstances around me, you already know the outcome of your plans for my life. In the midst of difficulties, your Word is my only source of hope. Help me to trust in you and gain an eternal perspective.

Quotes:
Surrender to the Lord means turning around one hundred and eighty degrees—that means a renewed person and renewed vision. . . . We are not ready for the battle until we have seen the Lord, for Jesus is the answer to all problems.
Corrie ten Boom (1892–1983)
