God Lets You Reap What You Sow

God Lets You Reap What You Sow

Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.
Galatians 6:7

We prefer “positive promises,” don’t we? Verses that guarantee God’s blessing or assure our happiness—those are the ones we tend to memorize and needlepoint for display on the living room wall. So what’s with the passage above? Why concentrate on such a somber Scripture?

Because Galatians 6:7 is a promise—a troubling one to be sure, but a divine guarantee nevertheless. Here is a warning of dire consequences if we opt for an existence that excludes God and his will.

How easy it is in our culture to get swept up into thinking that we don’t need God. How natural it feels to go about our daily activities—many of them good things—and then if we happen to think of it, to try to fit God in around the edges.

God must have the central place. If we ignore him and neglect what he says is important in life, we will one day find ourselves reaping a bitter harvest. And that’s a promise.

GOD’S PROMISE TO ME
• You can’t ignore me and get away with it.

• You will reap what you sow.

MY PRAYER TO GOD
O Lord, I am prone to self-deception. Keep me from buying into the culture’s attractive and popular lies. I cannot ignore you without severe consequences. Give me the desire to make you supreme in my life.
