God Can Make You Happy With Less
Godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.
1 Timothy 6:6-8
We sometimes let our lives be driven by discontent. We feel something vital is missing. We must do whatever it takes to find or get that missing something.
Contentment is the opposite of a driven lifestyle. When we allow ourselves to rest and be content, our attitude says, “I have everything I need. Things are good. I’m satisfied. I will relax and enjoy my lot in life.” Contented people don’t typically become workaholics, overfill their appointment books or get deeply in debt. For the contented, less is more—or at least it’s enough.
Today’s promise reminds us that we have never seen a hearse pulling a U-Haul® trailer. Ultimate contentment isn’t found in the stuff of this world.
When we get right down to it, if we know God and have our basic needs met, what complaints do we have?
GOD’S PROMISE TO ME
• True wealth is being content with knowing me.
• You can’t take your riches and things into the life to come.
• I can help you be content with the basics of life.
MY PRAYER TO GOD
Contentment is your goal for me, Lord. Forgive me for the times I get discontented. Teach me to focus on all I do have, rather than on the things I lack. Make relationships—with you and others—my top priority.
