God Hears Your Pleas Of Distress
Evening, morning and noon I cry out in distress, and he hears my voice.
Psalm 55:17
Distress refers to the mental and emotional strain and/or physical danger resulting from a troubling situation. It can be mild—”a motorist in distress”—prompting uncertainty about the immediate future. Or it can be serious—”a baby in distress”—suggesting great trouble, immediate danger and need.

In Psalm 55 we find David in deep distress. His misfortune is a former ally and friend who has suddenly betrayed him and is now threatening his life. But David’s unique circumstances are not as important as his response.
Notice his raw honesty as he continually cries out to God. Next, compare his initial desperation (see verses 1-15) with the confidence expressed in verses 16-23. What prompts such a mood swing? David knew that God always listened to him.
GOD’S PROMISE TO ME
• I hear your prayers when you cry out in distress.
MY PRAYER TO GOD
Lord, like David, I need to bring my distress to you. Forgive me for the times I pout or complain to others, but do not bring my troubles to you—the one who can actually do something about them. You hear my desperate cries and come to my aid.
