God Acts For The Good Of Those Who Wait On Him

God Acts For The Good Of Those Who Wait On Him

Since ancient times no one has heard, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides you, who acts on behalf of those who wait for him.
Isaiah 64:4

“Good things come to those who wait.” We hear this old saying, but do we really believe it in our instant society, where waiting is viewed as positively as a root canal?

According to the Old Testament prophet Isaiah, God’s plans are always worth the wait. This was good news coming after the prediction of Judah’s exile and God’s judgment of the nations. Though God’s people would suffer for a time, eventually, God would restore them.

Waiting implies hope—hope that God will act in his perfect time frame. This is waiting with anticipation. Consider the anticipation a child exhibits, beginning in December, as thoughts turn toward Christmas. He or she waits with excited anticipation, knowing that something good will happen.

Good things do indeed come to those who wait … on the Lord.

GOD’S PROMISE TO ME
• I have good plans for you.

• If you wait for me, I will act on your behalf.

MY PRAYER TO GOD
Hear my cry, O Lord. I am waiting on you to act. Help me not to put a time limit on when I think you should act. I want to trust that you will act in just the right time.
