Jesus Is Counselor, God, Father, Prince Of Peace
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6
The Old Testament prophet Isaiah saw that through a child would come the fulfillment of God’s promise to deal with sin forever. This child would grow to be a man who would die as a perfect sacrifice for sin and then would return to heaven. Jesus said of himself, “The Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the mighty God” (Luke 22:69).
Jesus is the Wonderful Counselor. He knows all things, speaks what the Father says and can give us the perfect advice we need. Jesus is the Mighty God. Here we find the mystery of the Trinity. Jesus is himself God; God’s attributes are his attributes. He is the Son, yet he is God. Don’t try to understand it—just rejoice in it! Jesus is the Everlasting Father. He desires a relationship with us. He is not just an impersonal, all-powerful God; he is our Father—forever. Jesus is the Prince of Peace. In this world we will not have complete peace, but Jesus promises to give us inner peace and to one day bring peace to all his people. What a day that will be!
GOD’S PROMISE TO ME
• I am the Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father and Prince of Peace.
MY PRAYER TO GOD
You are everything this verse says, Lord. Nothing stands in your way; nothing is outside of your authority. I pray for peace in the midst of my hard times. I understand that it is through times of trial and difficulty that people grow and mature.
