God Helps You Through Great Trouble
This is what the Lord says—he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel: “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.
Isaiah 43:1-2
God sent the prophet Isaiah to his rebellious people to speak stern words of judgment and wonderful words of hope. Consigned to Babylonian captivity because of their sin, the Israelites needed to be reminded of God’s continual love and care. In the midst of great trouble and suffering, the people of God needed comfort and courage.
The words of this Old Testament prophecy echo through the pages of the New Testament. God is always with us (see Hebrews 13:5). He is our Savior (John 3:16). He loves us with an affection that we cannot begin to fathom (Romans 8:35-39).
What deep waters and fiery trials are you facing just now? Remember you are precious to God, and he loves you.
GOD’S PROMISE TO ME
