God’s Word Encourages The Grieving

My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to your word.
Psalm 119:28

There are so many reasons and occasions for grief. Some reading this page are grieving over the death of a loved one. Others are mourning the end of a marriage or because they have given up hope of ever realizing a deep-seated dream.

In short, grief is about loss. It’s the painful anger and emptiness we feel when we have to say good-bye. It’s the sharp, soul-shaking sadness that never fully goes away. We don’t ever “get over” our grief; we simply learn to not be incapacitated by life’s losses.

In deep grief the last thing in the world many Christians feel like doing is reading the Bible. God’s words and promises, like strong medicine, can initially sting a wounded heart filled with pain. But applied faithfully, the Word proves to be a soothing balm. It does its healing work by bringing us back again and again to what is really true.

GOD’S PROMISE TO ME
• My Word can encourage you in times of grief.

MY PRAYER TO GOD
Lord, comfort me with your truth.
