God Is Your Place Of Shelter

God Is Your Place Of Shelter

The LORD is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.
Psalm 9:9

Every action movie worth its weight in popcorn features some kind of chase. An evil villain or ominous fate threatens the main character; he or she is trying to make it to safety. Therein lies the tension.

Of course, most movies are simplistic and predictable. Life is not. Our enemies don’t always come dressed in black, looking suspicious. We don’t have stunt doubles to leap from balconies for us—nor, thankfully, are we called upon to do that in an average week.

What we do have for our moments of uncertainty, fear and panic is the sure promise of God as our refuge. He is the one to whom we can run. In him we find safety, peace and rest.

GOD’S PROMISE TO ME
• I am a shelter for the oppressed.

• I am a refuge for those in trouble.

MY PRAYER TO GOD
O Lord, sometimes I do feel oppressed by life—by concerns and worries and complicated situations. Help me to remember that you are a shelter for those who are weary and scared. You are my refuge in times of trouble.
