Your Thought Patterns Can Change

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.
Philippians 4:8-9

Do you have days when you feel completely out of control? Perhaps your mind focuses on everything that could be improved in your life: job, house, body, abilities.

On those days in particular these verses from Philippians come in handy. We can fix our thoughts on what is true and noble and right, not on what is false, undignified or unrighteous.

How easy it can be to fall into the haze of self-pity. Instead, we can think about what we think about. We can meditate on Scripture and put into practice what the Bible commands.

This passage reminds us to monitor our thoughts. With God’s help, we can think about things that are “excellent or praiseworthy.”

• When you fix your thoughts on positive things, you can avoid much sin.

MY PRAYER TO GOD
You have told us, Jesus, that sin begins with thoughts. Give me the ability to think as you think, so that I will be able to dwell on what is true, noble and right. Help me to focus on what is pure, lovely and admirable.
