A Path Lit by His Presence

A Path Lit by His Presence

The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you. Do not be like a senseless horse or mule that needs a bit and bridle to keep it under control.” Psalm 32:8-9

In this passage God declares his desire and intention to guide us, to advise us, and to watch over his children. He promises not only his loving protection but also a path that is lit by his very presence and word so we won’t be confused about which way to go. Of course, just as young people can reject their fathers’ advice and guidance, just as a horse can resist its master’s leading, we can reject the “best pathway” that God has marked out for us and instead choose to go our own way. We do that by following the world’s way instead of God’s way. We might ignore his guidance by neglecting time with him, by being too busy to read his Word, or by looking everywhere for answers to our dilemmas except to the Shepherd, who will always steer us in the right direction. As you meditate on these verses, let them gently lead you to the Lord for the guidance you need today.

Prayers:
FATHER, guard me from being like the senseless horse who pushes against your control. I want you to guide me on the best pathway for my life day by day. Thank you for your assurance of direction and protection and especially for your promise that your unfailing love surrounds those who trust you.

BEFORE US IS A FUTURE ALL UNKNOWN, A PATH UNTROD; BESIDE US IS A FRIEND WELL LOVED AND KNOWN—THAT FRIEND IS GOD.
