Exalting The Savior Worthy Of Praise

I pray … that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may … know this love that surpasses knowledge.
Ephesians 3:16-19

Awe is an appropriate response to glorious sights of nature: the Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls, the Milky Way. But how do you respond to the wonder of salvation?

After nearly three chapters of explanation regarding life in Christ, Paul broke forth in spontaneous exaltation of the praiseworthy Christ.

A few centuries later Bernard of Clairvaux captured his emotions at the thought of his Lord this way.

WALK WITH BERNARD OF CLAIRVAUX
Jesus, the very thought of thee

With sweetness fills my breast;

But sweeter far thy face to see,

And in thy presence rest.

O Hope of every contrite heart,

O Joy of all the meek,

To those who fall, how kind thou art!

How good to those who seek!

But what to those who find? Ah, this

Nor tongue nor pen can show,

The love of Jesus, what it is

None but his loved ones know.

Jesus, our only joy be thou,

As thou our prize wilt be;

Jesus, be thou our glory now,

And through eternity.

WALK CLOSER TO GOD
Paul challenged the Ephesians to comprehend “how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ” (Ephesians 3:18). He ended by saying, “To him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen” (Ephesians 3:21).

Reread Paul’s prayer in chapter three. Then voice your own praises to the one who enabled you to become his “loved one” eternally.
