The Blessed Hope Of Christ’s Return
The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Messiah, and he will reign for ever and ever.
Revelation 11:15
Christians today, like those of old, are prompted to ask, “Where is the promise of his coming?”
Patience, Christian. God is working out his purposes. Sometimes visibly, sometimes invisibly, he is patiently gathering the sons and daughters of the kingdom from every tongue, tribe and nation.
Hymn writer Charles Wesley knew this truth well. In one of his inspiring compositions he proclaims the hope of every Christian: “Christ the Lord returns to reign.”
WALK WITH CHARLES WESLEY
Lo! He comes, with clouds descending,
Once for our salvation slain;
Thousand thousand saints attending
Swell the triumph of His train:
Alleluia, alleluia!
Christ the Lord returns to reign.
Every eye shall now behold Him,
Robed in dreadful majesty;
Those who set at naught and sold Him,
Pierced and nailed Him to the tree,
Deeply wailing, deeply wailing,
Shall the true Messiah see.
Yes, Amen! let all adore Thee,
High on Thine eternal throne:
Savior, take the power and glory;
Claim the kingdom for Thine own:
Alleluia, alleluia!
Thou shalt reign, and Thou alone.
WALK CLOSER TO GOD
Someday the kingdom of God will come and God’s Son will enjoy ultimate victory over the forces of evil. Every eye will see him, and every knee will bow before the one who shall reign for ever and ever.
Let the coming of his kingdom encourage you to readiness and expectancy. Someday you too will “swell the triumph of His train.”
