Closing The Gap Between Head And Heart

No one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.
John 3:3

Many people are in danger of missing heaven by 18 inches. That’s roughly the distance from your head to your heart. And it marks the difference between believing about Jesus Christ, and believing in Jesus Christ.

Nicodemus was a religious leader of his day who had head knowledge rather than heart knowledge about God. Yet he had religious questions he could not answer.

The answers Nicodemus received when he questioned Jesus demanded more than an intellectual nod, as G. Campbell Morgan explains.

“We often hear it said today that there are many excellent people in the world who make no profession of Christianity.

“Nicodemus was that kind of man, particularly on the intellectual side. And it was to him that Christ first declared the necessity of the new birth.

“Nicodemus was a Pharisee, a ruler of the Jews. Narrow, dogmatic, educated and patriotic, he stood high in public position and prestige.

“But he was in danger of missing the kingdom of God.

“Jesus, looking at Nicodemus with all his intellect and strength, began on the level where Nicodemus would be familiar—his knowledge of the Scriptures.

“There he would learn that life comes through the lifting up of the Son of Man—a heavenly fact demanding more than intellectual activity.”

WALK CLOSER TO GOD
Facts about the Savior’s life are important. But no amount of facts alone will ever get you into the family of God.

For that takes a miracle of rebirth. You must come to the cross in childlike faith, believing in Jesus rather than simply believing about him.

In the words of Jesus, “You must be born again” (John 3:7).
