A Clean Slate
• When God forgives you of your sins, what happens to those sins?
• What does it mean to have a clean slate?
“I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols.”
Ezekiel 36:25
The Bible says that “as far as the east is from the west, so far has [God] removed our transgressions from us” (Psalm 103:12). How far is that? As far as far can be. The distance between us and our sins cannot be measured—it is that great. When God forgives us of our sins, he wipes the slate clean. We become pure again, as when we were created.
This means that once we’ve confessed our sins and been forgiven, we don’t have to feel guilty about our mistakes anymore. We don’t have to carry around the weight of our sin. God has made us clean. He has rescued us from our sin. He has set us free.
This opens us up to strive for bigger and better things. Once we confess our sins, God gets them out of the way for us. We don’t have to deal with them anymore; we can focus on learning about God, serving others and glorifying God.
PRAYER
