A Clear Conscience

A Clear Conscience

• What’s the first thing you remember feeling guilty about?

• How easy is it to ignore your conscience?

But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord … keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.
1 Peter 3:15 – 16

If you follow Jesus, there’s a good chance you’re going to rub people the wrong way occasionally. Some may accuse you of being narrow-minded. Others may accuse you of being judgmental. Still, others may call you uncaring or gullible.

If you hear those kinds of accusations long enough—or if you hear them from people you like and respect—you may be tempted to start believing them. That’s where a clear conscience comes in handy.

If you live your life the way Jesus wants you to live it—loving God with all your heart and loving others as yourself—people will have no reason to question you. If you build a reputation as someone who can be trusted, someone who goes out of their way to help others, someone who’s always willing to listen and someone who genuinely cares, people will have no reason to question you. More importantly, you’ll have no reason to question yourself.

With a clear conscience, you can make a real difference in the lives of the people around you.

PRAYER
Dear God, thank you for forgiving our sins and giving us a chance to have clear consciences. Help us become the people you want us to be. Amen.
