A Really Bad Day

A Really Bad Day

• Share a “bad day” that you’ve had.

• Who in your life helps you serve God?

The LORD said to him, “Go back the way you came, and go to the Desert of Damascus. When you get there, anoint Hazael king over Aram … Yet I reserve seven thousand in Israel—all whose knees have not bowed down to Baal and whose mouths have not kissed him.”
1 Kings 19:15,18

Elijah was having a bad day. He had been working hard to convince people to worship the real God instead of the false god Baal. Elijah had just miraculously defeated 450 prophets of Baal. And because of this, the evil Queen Jezebel threatened to kill Elijah. Elijah ran for his life and ended up hiding in a cave.

But God did not leave Elijah alone to suffer. God sent angels to visit and feed him, and then God himself visited Elijah and named specific people who would help him destroy Baal worship in Israel.

Can you imagine being completely discouraged, at the end of your rope, and having God himself say to you, “Here are some people to help you. There are seven thousand people who do not worship Baal. You have seven thousand people on your side!”

When we are on God’s side, we are never truly alone. Even when we feel alone, God has a plan. When we are feeling lonely, scared or discouraged, we can ask God for encouragement. Who knows, he may have seven thousand people lined up to help.

PRAYER
Dear God, thank you for encouraging us when we are lonely. Thank you that we are never really alone. Amen.
