Calm, Cool And Collected

Calm, Cool And Collected

• Have you ever made a scene because you were angry? Describe that experience.

• Do you know someone who never seems to get upset? How would you describe that person?

Fools show their annoyance at once, but the prudent overlook an insult.
Proverbs 12:16

Think back to a time when you saw someone who was really angry. Maybe it was a coach on television. Or a kid on a playground. Or some guy on the street screaming at his girlfriend. Try to remember what that really looked like. Try to remember the impression that you got from that angry person.

You probably didn’t think, “Wow, that person is really cool,” or “That person is really smart,” or “I wish I was as happy as that person.” No, you probably didn’t admire that person at all. You might have been troubled by their actions. You might have been scared of them. Maybe you vowed to yourself never to act like that.

When we let our anger drive us to lose control, we look like fools. When we overlook an insult, though, we look calm, cool and collected. When something annoys us, we don’t have to react. We don’t have to give anyone the satisfaction of making us lose our cool. We can honor God and save ourselves embarrassment by calmly walking away.

PRAYER
Dear God, thank you for giving us the ability to control our emotions. Please help us to stay calm, cool and collected. Amen.
