Creatures Of Habit

Creatures Of Habit

• In what ways are you a creature of habit?

• What might someone do to hide a bad habit?

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Isaiah 41:10

A creature of habit is someone who does the same thing over and over again because it’s comfortable. For example, some people eat the exact same thing for breakfast every morning. Others drive the same route to school or work every day, even if it’s faster to go another way. Creatures of habit don’t like it when they have to change their routine. They prefer to stay in their comfort zones.

Though it may seem odd to some people, there’s nothing wrong with eating the same cereal or driving the same road every day. But when the habit is something bad, something sinful, it can cause big problems in our relationship with God.

Quitting a habit like that can be tough. We need something to shake us up and make us recognize the negative effects of our habit. That’s where our conscience comes in.

The conscience says, “Hey, you don’t have to do this anymore. Your habit is hurting you. It’s time to step out of your comfort zone and put an end to this. Yes, it will be hard. But if you do it, God will make it worth your while.”

PRAYER
Dear God, thank you for loving us enough to confront us when we’re hurting ourselves. Please open our eyes to the things we do that displease you. Amen.
