Even In The Darkest Times

Even In The Darkest Times

• When was the darkest time of your life?

• Who or what helped you get through it?

But no one says, “Where is God my Maker, who gives songs in the night?”
Job 35:10

The quote from Job 35:10 comes from Elihu, a friend who tried to comfort Job after tragedy struck. Job was devastated because he didn’t know why such suffering had been heaped on him. He prayed to God about it but only seemed to get silence in return. Elihu emphasized that God does hear our cries, even when it seems he doesn’t.

If we’re struggling with grief, we need to do three things. First, we need to let the grief run its natural course. A devastating loss isn’t something we recover from in a day or a week or even a month. God will not make all pain go away in an instant, because that’s not how grief works. In order to make a healthy recovery, we need to experience the pain.

The second thing we need to do is believe in God’s love and concern. We need to put our faith in his promises and trust that the help and comfort he offers is exactly what we need when we need it.

The third thing we need to do is to accept the comfort that God offers. Through praying and studying his Word, we can feel safe and consoled.

PRAYER
Dear God, thank you for always being there for us, no matter what we face. Thank you for never failing us. Remind us to look to you when we are in pain. Amen.
