Faithful With A Few Things

Faithful With A Few Things

• Name some things that God has given to you that you can use for him.

• What does it mean to be faithful with your money?

“To one he gave five bags of gold, to another two bags, and to another one bag, each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey …

The man who had received five bags of gold brought the other five. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with five bags of gold. See, I have gained five more.’

His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’“
Matthew 25:15,20-21

In this parable from Matthew, a man leaving on a journey left his money behind with three servants.

Two of his servants went to work with their master’s money. They invested it and got a return for their efforts, which they gratefully gave to their master when he returned. The third servant, however, was “wicked” and “lazy” and did nothing with the money that his master had given him. He had nothing to show for it and offered up excuses for his lack of responsibility.

In the same way, God gives each of us a certain amount of “wealth,” which we are to use in his service. This wealth could be actual money. It could be time. It could be a skill. What he gives us and the amount it is not the point. The point is what we do with it. Do we use it wisely? Or do we behave wickedly and lazily and do nothing with it?

God has entrusted us with a portion of his wealth so that we can use it for his glory. We need to be faithful with what we have been given. We need to put it to work.

PRAYER
Dear God, thank you for entrusting us with a portion of your wealth. Please help us to use it wisely, so that we will increase it and be able to give back to you. Amen.
