For His Protection

For His Protection

• What’s the most dangerous situation you’ve ever faced?

• How did God help you through it?

My shield is God Most High, who saves the upright in heart.
Psalm 7:10

David made a powerful enemy in King Saul, though he couldn’t understand why. David had been nothing but loyal to the king. He killed the giant Goliath because none of the Israelite soldiers would do it. How could he have known that would make him more popular than Saul in the eyes of the Israelites?

David took a job playing harp in the palace to ease the king’s nerves. How could he have known that Saul was getting more and more crazed in his resentment? Saul twice tried to kill David with a spear. When that didn’t work, he sent a team of assassins to execute him. David escaped into the mountains, where he hid until King Saul’s anger cooled. While he was in hiding, David poured out his emotions to God in psalms.

You’d expect to find fear in his words, and there is some. But there’s also a lot of thankfulness, which you may not expect. As powerful as King Saul was, he was no match for David’s “shield,” God Most High. God would not allow Saul to harm David, and David was grateful for it.

God is our shield too. He protects us and gives us comfort in whatever we are facing. How will we show him our thankfulness?

PRAYER
Dear God, you are our shield. You protect us from harm. Give us the wisdom to trust you when we are afraid. Amen.
