From The Beginning

• What are you supposed to do if you’re in a building that’s on fire? What if a tornado is headed your way? How often do you practice those drills?

• What can we learn about God from the fact that he had a plan for salvation in place as soon as Adam and Eve sinned?

“And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.”
Genesis 3:15

In schools and in many office buildings, people practice contingency plans for what they will do in the event of an emergency. They practice clearing the building during fire drills. They practice gathering in a safe area for tornado drills or intruder alerts. They hope they will never have to face the worst-case scenario, but if they do, they will be ready.

In Genesis 3:15, we see evidence that God had a contingency plan in place for his human creation. While he was cursing the serpent (Satan) for deceiving Eve, God revealed that one day Eve’s offspring—Jesus—would crush Satan’s head. What’s amazing is that he was referring to Jesus’ crucifixion. Yet his conversation was taking place in the Garden of Eden, immediately after Adam and Eve sinned.

That means God already had a contingency plan in place. God knew the risks of giving people free will, the ability to choose good or evil. He knew we would sin, and he planned how he would save us after we made that fateful choice. It’s always been God’s intention to deliver us from the death and destruction that we brought on ourselves.

PRAYER
Dear God, we praise you for being all-knowing and for creating a way for us to be saved even after we disobeyed. Thank you for your incredible love. Amen.
