God-Breathed

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.
2 Timothy 3:16

God spoke to Jacob in a dream and promised to give him and his descendants the land in which he was staying (see Genesis 28:10-22). God spoke to Moses from a burning bush and instructed him to go back to Egypt to free the Israelites from slavery (see Exodus 3:1-22). God spoke to the prophet Elijah in a gentle whisper—after sending a windstorm, an earthquake and a fire. He eased Elijah’s fears and gave him an important assignment (see 1 Kings 19:1-18).

Is it any wonder that all three men are remembered for their boldness, courage and faithfulness? They got their marching orders straight from the Lord’s mouth. They never had to wonder whether they were doing the right thing. They had the words of God to guide them.

And so do we. In 2 Timothy 3:16, the apostle Paul tells us, “All Scripture is God-breathed.” God spoke to the people who wrote it. The words of Scripture are God’s words. Reading his words is like hearing his voice. If you’re curious about what God wants from you, read the Bible. If you want to learn more about him, spend time in the Scriptures. If you’d like to use his wisdom to straighten out some things in your life, open his Word.

PRAYER
Dear God, thank you for breathing the words of the Bible. Help us recognize that the words of Scripture come directly from you. Amen.
