God Doesn’t Grade On The Curve

God Doesn’t Grade On The Curve

• How do you feel when you are around someone who is arrogant?

• How do you know if you are doing a good job of living for God?

If anyone thinks they are something when they are not, they deceive themselves. Each one should test their own actions. Then they can take pride in themselves alone, without comparing themselves to someone else, for each one should carry their own load.
Galatians 6:3-5

Most teachers award grades based solely on the work students do. If a student does all of their work correctly, they get a good grade.

Some teachers grade “on the curve.” The teacher considers all the work that all the students do and then awards the student with the best work the best grade and the other students get averaged in after that.

God never grades on the curve, so Christians do not need to compare the work they do for God against the work of other Christians. We certainly shouldn’t be arrogant about what we are doing. We must not overestimate ourselves.

So how do we rate ourselves? We need to test our actions against God’s Word. We are responsible for how we live for God. Therefore, we are responsible for evaluating how we are doing. We need to examine ourselves through prayer, reading the Bible and taking the time to honestly reflect on our lives.

If we find that our relationship with God is strong, we can rejoice. But we should never rejoice because we are “doing a better job” than other Christians.

PRAYER
Dear God, please keep us from comparing our works to other Christians. Please help us to test our own actions and carry our own load. Amen.
