Members Of His Household

Members Of His Household

• What happens if you pull one stone out of a stone wall?

• Why does the Bible call Jesus the cornerstone?

Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone … And in him, you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.
Ephesians 2:19-20,22

God’s church—the body of believers, not the building—is built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets of the Bible. And Jesus is the cornerstone. Traditionally, the cornerstone is the first stone laid in construction. It is also the most important stone—the one that guides the placement of all the others.

We are a part of this metaphorical building—we are a part of the church. As God’s children, we are members of God’s household, and we form his church.

This gives us a lot of responsibility. We have been assembled to become a dwelling for the Holy Spirit. We must think and act like we are important members of this church. If we run off on our own agendas, we do a lot of damage to the structure and integrity of God’s church. If we love ourselves more than we love others, we hurt the church and the entire body of believers in this world.

PRAYER
Dear God, thank you for letting us become members of your household. Please help us to remember that we are part of your church. Amen.
