No Doubt!

No Doubt!

• How would your life change if you couldn’t talk for nine months?

• Share a time when you doubted God.

Zechariah asked the angel, “How can I be sure of this? I am an old man and my wife is well along in years.” The angel said to him, “I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to tell you this good news. And now you will be silent and not able to speak until the day this happens, because you did not believe my words, which will come true at their appointed time.”
Luke 1:18-20

Shortly before Mary became pregnant with Jesus, the angel Gabriel appeared to a righteous man named Zechariah. The angel told Zechariah that he and his wife would soon have a son who would grow up to be John the Baptist. And Zechariah, even though he was a believer and loved God, responded with, “Are you sure? We’re pretty old.”

Many, if not most, people would have had some doubts too in that situation. But not all of us will be silenced for nine months for our doubts. But that is what God did to Zechariah. The angel Gabriel said to him, “You will not be able to speak until your son is born.”

How would you have responded to the news of a miracle had you been in Zechariah’s shoes? How do you respond today to the revelations that you hear in the Bible or in Biblical teachings? It is normal to doubt, but we need to bring those doubts to God. James writes in James 1:6 that “the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.” We must work to have complete faith that God will do what he says he will do.

PRAYER
Dear God, please forgive us when we doubt. Please make our faith stronger. Amen.
