Nothing But The Truth

Apollos was one of the earliest Christian teachers. He traveled with the apostle Paul to help spread the Good News of Jesus. He also helped start churches in different cities where Jesus’ followers could meet together.

Not everyone was happy with Apollos’s work, though. The Roman government was afraid that Christians would band together and try to overthrow the government. The Jewish religious leaders were upset that Jesus’ message was still spreading years after his death. They committed themselves to stopping the growth of Christianity.

One of the methods they used was to send out missionaries of their own to publicly challenge people like Apollos who preached the message of Jesus. The Jewish leaders believed if they could humiliate Jesus’ followers in public, people would reject their message. When they tried that tactic with Apollos, however, it backfired. Using the Scriptures to prove his point, Apollos showed his accusers the truth about Jesus. He explained that Jesus is the Messiah the Jewish people were looking for.

Apollos didn’t back down when people challenged him because he had the truth of God’s Word on his side. When you know the truth, no lie can hurt you.

PRAYER
Dear God, thank you for giving us the truth in your Word. When we face doubt or discouragement, remind us to go the Bible, where we will find the answers we need. Amen.
