One Body—many Parts

One Body—many Parts

• What do you want to be when you grow up?

• Can you think of ways that people in our church serve as Jesus’ hands? Jesus’ feet? Jesus’ ears?

Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.
1 Corinthians 12:12-13

There’s a reason the Bible calls the church the body of Christ. We, Christ’s followers on earth, work very much like a human body.

Imagine how many cells are in the human body, each one of them busy doing its own unique job. A liver cell cannot possibly do the job of a kidney cell, but when each cell does its own job well, the body stays healthy and is productive.

Now imagine how many believers there are on earth. The doctor in Toronto cannot possibly do the job of the missionary in Thailand, but when each believer does his or her own job well, the body of Christ stays healthy and is productive.

God will show us what our role in the body of Christ is. If you haven’t figured it out yet, don’t worry. If you are working to live according to God’s will, he will make his will known to you. And you can take joy in your role because you were created for this.

PRAYER
Dear God, thank you for creating each of us to have a unique job in the body of Christ. Please help us discover what you would have us do. Amen.
