Patience Vs. Pride

Patience Vs. Pride

• What does it mean to be patient?

• What does it mean to be prideful?

The end of a matter is better than its beginning, and patience is better than pride.
Ecclesiastes 7:8

Two girls wanted to join their church’s worship team, but their pastor said, “Not yet. Keep practicing, and when you’re a little older, you can audition.”

One of the girls got mad. She decided that she was “too good” for the worship team. She told everyone who would listen how talented she was and that someone on the worship team must have something against her.

The other girl was patient. Every day, she practiced the piano, and every night prayed, “God, when the time is right, please make it happen.”

Less than a year later the second girl was invited to audition for the team, and because of her hard work and good attitude, she was welcomed aboard. Her patience, her hard work, and her faith that God would lead the way were rewarded.

When the Bible talks about pride, it’s talking about arrogance that leaves no room for God. When we are proud, we think we don’t need God. We think we are smarter than God and more important than other people.

Humility, on the other hand, brings patience. When we are humble, we submit to God’s will for our lives. We know we can’t do it alone, and we trust God and know that he will take care of us in his own time.

PRAYER
Dear God, please forgive us when we are prideful; please replace our pride with patience. Amen.
