Rotten Bones? No Thank You!

• How does being envious affect a person?

• What does it mean to be at peace?

A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones.
Proverbs 14:30

Does envy rot our bones? That’s horrible! Now, envy probably won’t literally rot your bones, but King Solomon chose these words to convey just how much damage envy can do to a person. Envy causes pain and suffering. Envy can eat away at our spiritual life.

But there’s good news too. A heart at peace gives life. And as believers, our hearts can be at peace. We know the answers to life’s big questions: We know why we are here; we know what our greatest purpose is; and we know what will happen when we die. Having knowledge of and trusting in God’s truth will give us a heart at peace.

A heart at peace has no need to envy anyone. We know that we have everything we really need. We know that we have no need to envy anyone else because God has a perfect plan especially designed for us. We don’t need to let envy get in our way.

PRAYER
Dear God, thank you for freeing your believers from envy. When we are tempted to feel envious, please fill our hearts with your peace instead. Amen.
