Some Advice On Asking For Advice
• What are some things people ask advice about?
• When you need advice, who do you ask?
Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers.
Psalm 1:1
Violet really wanted to go to a concert with some friends. Her parents had already told her she couldn’t go because the concert was too far away and it was on a school night.
Violet’s friends offered her lots of advice on the subject. One thought she should just sneak out and go with them anyway—that her parents would never know. Another wasn’t so sure about that plan, but thought maybe Violet should ask her dad again when her mom wasn’t around because he was more likely to say yes.
Kaitlyn, who always thought things through and prayed about her decisions carefully, said that Violet should listen to her parents.
The friends kept talking, and eventually they looked up the band’s website. They found out that the band would be coming to another nearby city in a few months, and this time the concert would be on a Saturday. Kaitlyn offered to wait until then to go with Violet if her parents approved.
When we need advice, it’s important to go to a source that can be trusted. Fellow Christians are especially good to talk with, since we can trust that their motivation to serve the Lord is the same as ours. Others may not have our best interests as Christians in mind and may give us advice that could cause us to stumble in our walk with God.
PRAYER
Dear God, when we need advice, help us to seek it in the right places. Give us wisdom to tell the difference between good and bad advice. Amen.
