To Complete, To Make Perfect
• What promises has God made to you through the Word?
• How do you know that God won’t abandon you?
The LORD will vindicate me; your love, LORD, endures forever—do not abandon the works of your hands.
Psalm 138:8
God promised David in 2 Samuel 7:16 that he would raise up one of David’s descendants to establish his kingdom. God said, “Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before me; your throne will be established forever.” And God did this through Jesus. God kept his word to David.
At the time David wrote Psalm 138, he didn’t know yet how God would fulfill his promise, but he never lost faith that God would. King David made some mistakes, but he never doubted that God would keep his promises, that God would accomplish his will through David’s life.
And like David wrote in this psalm, God will never turn away from us either. He will complete us and make us perfect. God is God—he would never start a project and then abandon it. He has a plan for us, and he’s going to see it through to the end. God’s love is an eternal love, a love that we cannot possibly understand, and yet it’s ours for the taking.
