Worthy Of Respect

“Each of you must respect your mother and father, and you must observe my Sabbaths. I am the LORD your God.”
Leviticus 19:3

The Bible teaches us to respect our parents. God wants us to always treat our parents with kindness and consideration. We should remember that their ideas and thoughts matter. We should consider their feelings and how our actions will affect those feelings. And even if our parents disappoint us or make poor choices, we should remember that God wants us to honor them.

Sometimes we get caught up in the drama of life, and we are tempted to be disrespectful to the people in charge. If you find this happening to you, talk to God about it. He gave us this command, so he’s going to help us keep it. And remember, parents have been children too, and they know how hard it can be to show the appropriate respect.

Sometimes it’s helpful to consider a situation from your parents’ point of view. Can you imagine what it must be like for them? Can you imagine being responsible for the welfare of another soul? Parents are under a tremendous amount of pressure. They carry an immense responsibility on their shoulders. We can support them with our respect.

Dear God, thank you for our parents. Please help us to be respectful toward them because you have told us to honor them. Amen.
